Joan Kay (Kratz) Sell, age 82, of Nazareth, PA passed away peacefully at home on August 21, 2021. She was a selfless and caring person who was always concerned about others, even during the last days of her life.
Joan was born in Easton, PA on January 22, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Florence (Stout) Kratz. She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard who had passed away 30 years earlier.
Joan was a 1956 graduate of Nazareth Area High School and received her Registered Nursing degree from Elizabeth General Hospital School of Nursing in Elizabeth, NJ. As an R.N., Joan cared for many in the broader Easton and Nazareth communities including Easton Hospital, for the family practice of Dr. Robert Snyder in Nazareth, the Easton school system, and Gracedale Nursing Home. Caring for others was in Joan's DNA, and she took great pride in seeing to the needs of her family, friends, and neighbors. She was also proud to be viewed as a "mother" by so many.
Joan was a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, even if she cursed you out for something she didn't agree with. She loved spending time with her four sons, their wives and her ten grandchildren, and there was never a lack of nicknames for Joan or for Joan ending up as the butt end of many jokes, teasing or pranks doled out by "her boys".
Joan is survived by her four sons, their wives, and children – Robert and Susan Sell of Pottersville, NJ and their daughter Olivia; Mark and Dawn Sell of Bangor, PA and their son Charlie and daughter Martina; Stephen and Robin Sell of Lebanon, NJ and their daughters Jennifer and Jessica and son Justin; and Kyle and Jocelyn Sell of Lebanon Township, NJ and their daughters Maggie, Emily, Katie, and Abby. In addition to her husband and parents, Joan is preceded in death by her brothers Barry and Dale Kratz.
Joan's viewing and burial will be private and for her immediate family. She will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth, alongside her husband Richard. In lieu of flowers, Joan specifically asked that you keep her in your prayers; however, if you feel like making a donation, then please do so to St. John's United Church of Christ, 183 S. Broad St., Nazareth, PA 18064.
