Obituary

Jody A. Szakos Allen, 49, of Bethlehem, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg. She was the wife of Robert Allen with whom she would have celebrated 30 years of marriage April 14. BORN: June 14, 1964 in Fountain Hill, she was a daughter of Joseph Szakos and his wife Joanne of Hellertown, and the late Ann Wessels Szakos. PERSONAL: Jody worked as an LPN in the Emergency Behavioral Health Department of Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg. She was formerly employed in the office of OBGYN at Caring for Women. A loving wife and mother, Jody was a born care giver; she always put everyone before herself. She enjoyed day trips to Lancaster, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, and spending time at Lake Wallenpaupack and Ocean City, NJ. Her most cherished memories were times spent at the farm of the late Herb Fehnel and Lillian (Mia) Smith in Palmer Township. As a tribute to her dedicated nursing career, Jody received the Friends of Nursing award from Lehigh Valley Hospital. MEMBERSHIPS: She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Tatamy. SURVIVORS: In addition to her husband, father and stepmother, Jody is survived by her only child, her daughter Krystle Allen of Bethlehem; two aunts, Mary Jane Lahr and husband Ralph, and Phyllis Petrilak; two uncles, Frank Wessels and Jack Wessels; numerous cousins, including, Lisa VanBuskirk and Jill Koch; nieces and nephews; and her constant companions, her dog Thumper, and cats, Oreo and Milky Way. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth, with the Rev. Ernest G. Shaffer presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the American Cancer Society, 3893 Adler Place, Suite 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017, or to the family, in care of the funeral home.
