John S. Meckler, 92, of Belfast, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in Gracedale.  He was the husband of Lela Colver Meckler, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.  Born September 14, 1925 in Nazareth, he was a son of the late John S. Sr. and Rosa Saras Meckler.

John attended Nazareth High School.  He worked as a machinist for Met Ed at the Portland plant, retiring after 31 years of service.

He was a member of St. Luke's UCC in Belfast, a charter member of the Plainfield Lion's Club, a member of the Blue Mountain Antique Steam Engine Club, and a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM #594 Pen Argyl.

Along with his wife Lela, John is survived by one son, Ronald and his wife Karla of Belfast; grandfather to Jared Meckler and his partner Tiffany, Brandon Meckler and his wife Brittney and great grandson Brody, Meredith Meckler, daughter in-law Patti Meckler, Dr. Julie Gum, and Jeffrey Gum.  John is also survived by one sister, Rose Crafa of Upper Nazareth.  He was predeceased by son, Dennis Meckler; grandson, Christopher Gum; and brother, Carl Meckler.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West St., Wind Gap, from 10-11 am.  Services will follow at 11 am in the funeral home with the Reverend Dr. Dean D. Frey presiding.  John will be laid to rest in Belfast Union Cemetery.
