Joseph M. Groman, 91, formerly of Plainfield Twp., passed away Friday, November 25, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital Anderson Campus. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Karch Groman, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Born July 13, 1925, in Easton, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph M. Groman Sr. and Ella Cheeseman Groman.

Joseph attended Easton Area High School where he excelled at Track and Basketball, and graduated with the Class of 1943. A member of the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division 7th Army, he honorably served his country from 1943-1945 during the European Theatre of WWII and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Battle Star, a Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge. Earlier in life he worked as a journeyman printer at Mack Trucks, and later worked as a letter carrier for the Easton Post Office, from where he retired after 40 years of service. After retirement, he volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed fishing, fly tying, bait casting, photography, camping, skiing, traveling and golf. He was also very interested in model airplanes and stock car racing.

Joseph was an active member of First Moravian Church of Easton where over the years he served as a Sacristan and several terms as an Elder. An active member of the community, he was a member of the Wilson Boro American Legion and Easton Moose, and served as Past Director of "Save the Bushkill" and the Northampton County Sportsman Show. He was a co-organizer of Model Airplane Doctors and in 1953 served as the Assistant Director of the National Model Airplane Contest in Willow Grove. He was a Charter Member of the Cloud Scratcher Model Airplane Club, and also served as Safety Director of West End Wings of Effort, PA, for 10 years. Joseph was also a member of the Liberty Auto Racing Club and the US Sports Car Association Racing Division.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Robert Groman.

Relative and friends are invited to call on Saturday, December 3, from 11:30 a.m. -12:00 noon, at the First Moravian Church of Easton, 225 North 10th Street, Easton, PA, 18042. A Memorial Service will be held in the Church at 12:00 noon with the Rev. Pat Honszer officiating. Burial at Northampton Memorial Shrine will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, Nazareth.
