Obituary

Kathleen "Deanie" Pegg, 95, formerly of Holland Township, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Moravian Hall Square in Nazareth, PA. Born March 12, 1925 in Frenchtown, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Hugh H. and Elizabeth (Risley) Sinclair. She lived in Hunterdon County most of her life before moving to Moravian Hall Square in 2009. She was the widow of Robert C. Pegg, who passed away in 1997, shortly after their 48th wedding anniversary.

Kathleen graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1942 and Ursinus College in 1946. She was a high school physical education teacher at three New Jersey high schools; Audubon, Frenchtown, and North Hunterdon Regional in Annandale. She was inducted into the Del Val Terrier Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018 for her service as coach of the undefeated 1954 girls' basketball team. She also coached an undefeated field hockey team at North Hunterdon. Kathleen was a swimming instructor at the Riegel Ridge Day Camp, and a field hockey and basketball referee in PA and NJ.

Shifting from athletics to elementary education, Kathleen taught second grade at Milford School for 22 years before retiring in 1989. Pursuing her interest in art, she attended Temple University, and enjoyed painting local landscape scenes during her retirement.

Kathleen was a lifelong member of the Frenchtown United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Oak Hill Golf Club, the National Education Association, New Jersey Education Association and Hunterdon County Retired Teachers Association. Often staying in touch with her former students, Kathleen had a special bond with the Frenchtown High School Class of 1953, who called her their "teacher and adopted classmate". Attending their monthly luncheon meetings to reminisce brought her great joy.

She is survived by her beloved son, Robert W. Pegg, of Milford, NJ and Bonita Springs, FL. She was predeceased by her sister, Mildred E. Sinclair; and her brother, Hugh M. Sinclair.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Kathleen's life. Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth will be handling the arrangements. Contributions in Kathleen's memory may be made to Frenchtown United Methodist Church, 16 Third St, Frenchtown, NJ 08825.
