Larry Slutter, 73, formerly of Nazareth, passed away late Monday evening, April 4, 2016, at his home in Reno, NV.  He was the beloved husband of Alice Achenbach Slutter, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Born April 5, 1942, in Nazareth, he was a son of the late Luther and Maryetta Frutchey Slutter.

After graduating from Nazareth High School, Larry honorably served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1960 through 1964.  Early in life he was influenced by his friend Aldo Andretti to move to Indianapolis, and over the years worked for various racing teams, including A. J. Foyt, Al Unser, Lloyd Ruby and Vels Parnelli Racing, and traveled extensively throughout the United States.   Being so involved in the sport of racing, Larry aided in the designing of the Ford racing engine in the 1960's, and then worked for the Cosworth Engine Company.  Later he worked for Toyota Racing Development from where he retired in 2008.  After retiring, he continued to work part-time in his own shop building racing engines, but enjoyed spending more of his time with his family and grandchildren.

Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather and in addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lori Bader (Marc), Annette Huntley (Don), Teresa Fleck (Jeff), and five grandchildren.   Also surviving is a brother, Ernest Slutter of Bethlehem, and a sister, Gloria Spohn (Charles) of Nazareth.
