Obituary

Marlyn L. Roth, 83, of Nazareth, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 in Moravian Hall Square. He was the loving husband of the late Phyllis Roth who passed away in 2007; together they celebrated 53 years of marriage. Born on March 12, 1931 in Nazareth, he was a son of the late Elwood and Esther (Longenbach) Roth. After graduating from Nazareth High School, Marlyn became a member of the US Army and served in Korea. He went on to attend Moravian College and received his Master's Degree from Lehigh University. Prior to his retirement, he was a long time Teacher, Guidance Counselor and Athletic Director at the Nazareth High School, where he also served as an assistant football, basketball and baseball coach. He was an avid Penn State fan, and loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Danielle. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem. Marlyn is survived by his son, Thomas Roth and his wife, Sharon, of Allentown, and his granddaughter, Danielle Roth. Also surviving are a sister, Betty Miller and her husband Robert of Tatamy; a brother, Larry Roth of Hagerstown, MD; and his special friend, Jean Masters of Nazareth. Along with his parents and wife, Phyllis, he was predeceased by brothers Wilson, Donald and Carl. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service which will be held on Friday, February 27, at 10 am in Greenwood Cemetery, 178-212 W High Street, Nazareth. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center Street, Bethlehem. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marlyn's name may be made to the Nazareth YMCA, 33 South Main St., Nazareth, PA, 18064, or to the American Cancer Society, Lehigh Valley Unit, 3893 Alder Place, Suite 170, Bethlehem PA, 18017.
