Mathew Joseph
"Joey" Post Jr.
Jul 11, 1945 — Jun 9, 2022
Allentown
Mathew Joseph "Joey" Post, Jr., 76 of Allentown slipped the surly bonds of earth, for something greater on Thursday June 9th, 2022. At the time of his departure, he was surrounded by his loved ones at Muhlenberg Hospital in Bethlehem.
Mathew was born on July 11th, 1945 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Mathew Sr. and Carol Peters-Post. Mathew and his parents moved to the Lehigh Valley shortly after his birth.
Mathew attended electronic technology school in Wilkes-Barre in the 1960's and after graduating found employment at the ITT Corporation in Easton where he proudly worked as an Electronics Technician for more than 30 years. Mathew worked on some of the most cutting-edge technology of the time, like the first generation of night vision goggles. He also manufactured vacuum tubes for the Strategic Defense Initiative, commonly known as the Star Wars Project- an attempt to make nuclear weapons obsolete.
Despite being born with physical limitations Mathew led a full and rewarding life. Mathew enjoyed spending time with his family including his two sons, many friends, and acquaintances. Mathew loved good coffee and watching movies. He was a fan of John Denver and never met a summer BBQ he didn't like, "Got any Pepsi?" A lifelong fan of science fiction, Mathew loved Star Trek and the idea that there might be life outside our solar system.
Mathew leaves behind his sons, Christopher Post of Bethlehem, Ryan Post and wife Maggie of Nazareth; sister Sharon Wright of Bethlehem Township; brother Brian Post and wife Helen of Lower Nazareth; four grandchildren, five nieces and nephews and countless friends he made along the way.
A Celebration of Life, and Mathew's beaming up to space, will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St. in Nazareth on Wednesday, June 15 th with a viewing from 9:30-11am, and funeral services beginning at 11am. Interment will immediately follow at Belfast Union Cemetery.
Those in attendance are requested to wear bright cheerful colors and enjoy an ice-cold Pepsi prior to Mathew's departure. Really, don't wear black! The heavenly accessory department has granted Mathew two wonderfully agile new legs and he is standing tall and proud, let's celebrate, not mourn.
