Pen Argyl

Obituary

Matthew J. "Goose" Ragusa, 34, of Pen Argyl, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 4, 2021.  Born July 7, 1986 in Plainfield, NJ, he was a son of the late Joseph and Donna (Votypka) Ragusa.

Matt attended Pen Argyl High School and then served in the United States Marine Corps from 2007-2013. He was a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sgt. Ragusa was honorably discharged and began his next chapter of service as a City of Bethlehem Police Officer in January 2015. He quickly became a leader among his peers; he earned a position on the Emergency Response Team and became one of the department's best Field Training Officers. Working steady nightshift his entire career he was a beacon of light to countless Bethlehem citizens who needed hope in their darkest hour.

He was the loving husband of Stephanie (Hower) Ragusa, together they shared 14 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Xavier, Braxton, and Lex. Along with his wife and children, Matt is survived by his sister, Krista of Wind Gap, PA; and brother Thomas of Somerset, NJ; as well as nephews, Thomas, Jordan, and Antonio. He will be missed dearly by many including his fellow Bethlehem Police Officers.
