Michael Jay Mengel, 47, of Forks Township, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. Born July 4, 1967, in Wilson Borough, Mike was the son of Frank Mengel, Jr. and Winifred (Siegfried) Mengel, also of Forks Township. Mike graduated from Easton High School in the Class of 1985 and attended one year at Penn State University. In 1986 Mike became a member of the U.S. Navy, honorably serving his country during the Gulf War, and was the recipient of many good conduct and service medals. After leaving the military, he worked as a Supervisor for Warehouse Services in Connecticut and Fogelsville, PA. In his free time, he enjoyed cars, racing and teaching country line dancing. He was a member of Forks United Church of Christ, Stockertown. In addition to his parents, Mike is survived by his sister, Cheryl Deleon-Snyder and her husband Matthew of York, PA, his maternal grandmother, Velma Siegfried, of Washington Twp., 1 niece, 2 nephews, and his beloved dog Muffy. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 - 11 am on Saturday, May 16th, at Forks United Church of Christ, 4500 Sullivan Trail, Stockertown. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 am with the Rev. Robert Gutekunst presiding. Burial will be in Forks Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA.
