Michael W. Smith, 77, of Tobyhanna, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 in Gracedale. He was the loving husband of the late Shirley I. Smith.

Born June 27, 1944 in Upper Darby, Delaware Co. he was a son of the late Michael and Mildred (Zauner) Platow.

Michael honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Albany during the Vietnam War. He later worked at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as well as the Tobyhanna Army Depot.

He was a member of the VFW, Masons and the Boy Scouts. He had an extensive record collection, which was meticulously categorized, and enjoyed woodworking and word carving. But his favorite pastime was playing Santa Clause for numerous groups and organizations throughout Monroe County.

He is survived by his step daughter; Kelly Gartland of Tobyhanna and his step grandson; Billy Bibbs of Austin, TX.

Michael will be laid to rest with a private ceremony at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Schmidt Funeral Home PC, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth.
