Nancy E. Johnson, 84, of Nazareth, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem. She was the beloved wife of Elton Johnson, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage. Born on July 14, 1932, in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Stella Fox Marsh.
Nancy graduated from Northampton High School with the Class of 1951. Over the years she worked for Freemans and Hermans, both in Nazareth, Alice Kaye at the Palmer Park Mall, and did cleaning in private homes. She also assisted her husband with the family business, the Nazareth Steam Laundry. Blessed with a beautiful voice, Nancy enjoyed sharing her gift by singing at many different churches and weddings; time which she generously donated. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Nazareth, where she looked forward to attending service on the first Wednesday of every month.
In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by three daughters, Valerie Snyder and her husband Dean of Schnecksville, Deborah Werkheiser and her husband Richard, Jr. of Northampton, and Lee Ann Paff and her husband Wayne of Forks Twp. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, R.C. Werkheiser and his companion, Lisa Snyder, Jennifer Boyer and her husband Adam, Heather Gardner and her fiancée Shawn Buskirk, Korey Paff and his wife Melanie, and Kelsey Werkheiser and her companion Corey Nycz; 3 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Karissa, and Daymian; a brother, Luther Marsh of Schnecksville; and a sister, Sara Weil and her husband Roy of Northampton. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Family and friends are invited to call from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Thursday, October 13, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 183 South Broad Street, Nazareth, 18064, where a Memorial Service will begin at 11:30 am, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Brinks officiating. Burial will be private. Services are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, Nazareth.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nancy's memory may be offered to St. John's United Church of Christ at the above address, or to St. Luke's Hospice, 240 Union Station Plaza, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
