Pauline "Polly" Gabert, 95, formerly of Plainfield Twp. and also a former longtime resident of Tatamy, passed away early on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth. She was the wife of the late Russell G. Gabert, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage at the time of his passing in December, 2005. Born on September 24, 1920, in Plainfield Twp., she was a daughter of the late Myrus and Bessie Heimer Jones.
Polly graduated from Nazareth High School with the Class of 1937. She worked as an Office Clerk for GPU Energy, the former Metropolitan Edison Co., from where she retired after many years of service. She was a member of the local I.B.E.W. Union and the Met Ed Retirees' Assoc. Earlier in life she was active with the Brownies and Girl Scouts in Tatamy. She previously volunteered at the Third Street Alliance in Easton and participated in the adult programs at NCC. She was the last member of the Tatamy Pinochle Club, which she played in for 63 years starting in 1943. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Tatamy.
Polly is survived by three daughters, Carol Dewalt and her husband Glenn, and Dianne Ponist and her husband John, both of Plainfield Twp., and Linda Kovacs and her husband Bob of Ross Twp. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 2 grandchildren, LeeAnn and Mark; 4 sisters, Erma Knecht, Maude Brewer, Emma Ulmer and Annabel Whitesell; and 5 brothers, James, Virgil, Woodrow, Roland who was killed in action during WWII, and Paul Jones.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, June 23, 2016, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Darlene Blocker officiating. Burial will follow at Belfast Union Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Pauline's memory may be offered to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, P O Box 188, Tatamy, PA 18085, or to St. Luke's Hospice, 240 Union Station Plaza, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
