Pearl V. Hill, 102, formerly of Nazareth, passed away peacefully Friday, August 19, 2022, at Orwigsburg Center, Orwigsburg, PA.  Born in Nazareth, on December 30, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Leon Arndt and Carrie (Reese) Arndt Uhler.  She was predeceased by husbands Robert Mertz and Darrell Hill.

Pearl attended and graduated from Nazareth High School, the former Churchman's Business College and Northampton Community College.  She honorably served our country in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps Band during World War II. Pearl was proud to play in the Army Band and went on to play in several Lehigh Valley bands on both the clarinet and saxophone. She loved music, especially hymns, marches, big band music and Christmas carols as well as dancing and playing the piano. She was employed by Schaible's Bakery, Lehigh Foundry, Nazareth Jr. High School and the Nazareth Fabricators.

Pearl was an active member of St John's United Church of Christ and the American Legion Post #415, both, in Nazareth.

She is survived by sons, Brent (Peg) Mertz of Maineville, OH and Alan (Amy) Mertz of Easton;  7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10:30-11:00 am Saturday, August 27 in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth, PA 18064.  A Memorial Service will follow at 11 am in the funeral home.   Pearl will be laid to rest with military honors in Hope Cemetery, Hecktown.
