Obituary

Richard K. "Rick" Haupt, 66, of Moore Township, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 9, 2018 at his residence. Born March 31, 1952 in Fountain Hill, he was the son of the late Walter and Jean Kern Haupt.

Rick, also known as Ricky, was a graduate of Nazareth High School, class of 1970 and Drexel University, class of 1975. At an early age he began working at the family business, the former Kern's Meat Market, in Nazareth. Later he was employed by Victaulic as a pattern maker until he retired on disability. As a young man Rick grew up in Nazareth during a time when playing outdoor was fun. His wonderment of nature and animals remained with him throughout his life. Influenced by his parents, especially his mother, he also developed an interest in antiques and collecting things. His collections spanned from antiques and WWII memorabilia to motorcycles and frogs!

Rick was very active and, over the years, enjoyed the company of numerous friends. He was a member of various social clubs and participated with the Nazareth VFW Post 4366 shuffle board and dart leagues. An avid hunter, he was a member of the East Bath Rod & Gun Club. In the town of Nazareth, where he grew up, he was raised in the Moravian faith.

Rick is survived by 1 sister, Kathleen Bretz of Northampton; 1 niece, Gretchen Bretz of Atlanta, GA; 1 nephew, Joseph Bretz and his wife Wendy and their children, Josiah and Luke all of Quebec, Canada; uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Friends are invited to a visitation, Saturday morning, from 9-10 am, in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. A memorial service will follow at 10 am, in the funeral home, with Pastor Garritt Fleming and Pastor Sanette Fleming officiating. Rick will be laid to rest, alongside his parents, in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to the local VFW Post 4366, 144 Mauch Chunk St, Nazareth, PA 18064 or to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
