Richard P. "Dick" Schaffer, 91, longtime resident of Pen Argyl , passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 in Slate Belt Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born March 11, 1927 in Bath, he was a son of the late Paul and Miriam Florey Schaffer. He was the loving husband of Edna Williams Schaffer, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Dick graduated from Pen Argyl High School and served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Dick was employed as a supervisor for Collins & Aikman. Later he worked for the Pen Argyl School District until retirement. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, golf and hunting. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan.
In addition to his beloved wife Edna, Dick is survived by his children, Barbara Wenton and husband William of Stroudsburg, Deborah Finken and husband Paul of Easton, and Rebecca Catino of West Bangor; grandchildren, Jared Pennington and wife Nicole, Anthony Catino and wife Bridgette, and Stephanie Catino; step-grandchildren, Jason Wenton and wife Georgette, Jaret Wenton, Paula Miller and husband Eric, John Finken, Chris Bass and husband William, and Brandon Finken; and 12 great-grandchildren, Emily, Seth, Taylor, Grace, Chloe, Morgan, Natalie, Connor, Cameron, Olivia, Rowan, and Stella Rose. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Schaffer; sisters, Dorothy Pysher, Marie Wessman, Pauline Thompson, and Betty Schaffer; and son-in-law, Ralph Catino.
Friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 10-11 am, in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West St., Wind Gap. A memorial service will follow at 11 am, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Dean D. Frey officiating. Dick will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl.
