Rita Gail Serfass, 67, of Stroudsburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family early Thursday morning, July 21, 2016, at the home of her daughter Beverly, in Bangor. Born on May 15, 1949, in Fountain Hill, she was the daughter of Lorraine Van Why Meckler of Belfast.

Rita was a dedicated daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who always put others and their happiness before herself. Even throughout her illness, she always did her best to make life enjoyable for others and for herself.  She worked as a self-employed house cleaner. She enjoyed weekend getaways, traveling, photography, and reading. She was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Belfast.

Rita is survived by her son, Dean Serfass and his girlfried Alicia of Nazareth, and two daughters, Beverly Garr and her husband Corey of Bangor, and Christine Wickett and her boyfriend William Kindt of Saylorsburg. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jamie, Kylee, Kaitlyn, Dylan and Natalie; a brother, Richard Foley and his wife Mary of Nazareth; a niece, Carla White, her husband Chris and their children Ian and Ella; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Rita was predeceased by her son, Allen L. Serfass, in 1992.

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 am on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, in the Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth. A funeral service will follow at 11 am in the funeral home, with the Rev. Darlene Blocker officiating. Burial will follow in Forks Cemetery, Stockertown, PA.
