Robert S. Handelong, 75, of Plainfield Township, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. BORN: Born December 12, 1937 in Plainfield Township, the oldest of eight children, he was a son of the late Samuel and Lucy (Teel) Handelong. Robert was the beloved husband of the former Frances Weidman. PERSONAL: Robert retired from the Bethlehem Corporation, formerly the Treadwell Corporation, after 42 years as a machinist. He enjoyed fishing, and traveling with family and friends. He was always willing to offer a helping hand wherever needed. MEMBERSHIPS: Robert was a lifetime and active member of Hope United Church of Christ in Wind Gap. He was also a member of the Plainfield Farmer's Association and the Slate Belt AARP. SURVIVORS: Along with his loving wife Frances, Robert is survived by one son, Terry L. and his wife Sandra of Mertztown; two daughters, Denise A. Lint and her husband Timothy of Bangor, and Donna M. Belkey and her husband Shawn of Lakeland, FL; siblings, Thelma, Thomas and Lucille; five grandchildren, Kimberly, Bethany, Kristin, Shawn J. and Shana; and three great-grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by brothers, Richard, Dennis, Dellies and James. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 18th in Hope UCC, 701 Cherry St., Wind Gap, with the Rev. Dr. Dean D. Frey presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to view 10:00-11:00 am in the church. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home P.C., 202 West St., Wind Gap.
