Robert Allen Krome Sr., 85, a respected and beloved figure of Forks Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Alexandria Manor, Nazareth. Born in Wind Gap on November 2, 1937, Robert was a cherished son of the late James W. and Verna Mae (Buskirk) Krome. His life was a testament to the values of courage, thoughtfulness, and dedication to public service.
Robert was the devoted husband of Vera (Kronmueller) Krome, with whom he shared 64 joyous years of marriage. Their love story began in Germany while Robert was serving in the United States Army with the 793rd MP BN and the 62nd Highway Patrol. It was during this time that Robert's interest in law and order was sparked, leading to a lifelong commitment to policing.
After graduating from Pen Argyl High School in 1956, Robert embarked on a distinguished career in law enforcement after returning from the army. His dedication to maintaining peace and order led him to the Forks Township Police Department, where he served with honor and distinction for many years. His leadership and commitment to the community were recognized when he retired in 1997 as Chief of Police.
Robert's legacy is carried on by his loving family. He will be deeply missed by his wife Vera; son, James and his wife Maria; grandchildren, Robert III (Ashley), Nicholas (Courtney), Brittney Maria Payton; great-grandchildren, Emsley, Avery, Elley, Audrey, and Nicholas Jr.; brother Jim; sister Betty and her husband Lee; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his son Robert Jr. and his daughter, Debbie.
He will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his kindness, his love for his family, and his steadfast commitment to serving others. His memory will forever be cherished by his loved ones and the community he served so faithfully.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Robert's memory and his significant contributions to his community. Arrangements have been entrusted to Schmidt Funeral Home, PC, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth.
