Obituary

Roberta L. Brodt, 86, of Bangor passed away early Friday morning, December 13, 2013 at the home of her daughter Cindy, following a brief illness. She was the wife of Leartis Brodt Sr. who passed away on November 10, 1997. BORN: June 8, 1927, in Scotrun, she was the last surviving of 15 children born to the late Amzi and Mary Rustine Transue. PERSONAL: Roberta worked at various blouse mills in the slate belt prior to her retirement. In her spare time she could be found playing bingo, taking day trips to the casinos, buying her lottery tickets and fixing whatever was broken. She had a great sense of humor and possessed a keen musical talent. Roberta loved to sing and played several instruments "by ear," never using sheet music. Along with her brother Lloyd, Roberta was proud to be a founding member of the Transue Family Reunion Committee. MEMBERSHIPS: She was a member of UNITE, the Ladies Garment Workers Union and a life member of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as President for 25 years and ran bus trips. She was also a member of the Bangor VFW Post # 739 Ladies Auxiliary where she was in charge of the bingo games. Roberta was of the Lutheran faith. SURVIVORS: Her loving family, one son, Leartis"Lee" Jr. and his wife Sally of Easton, three daughters, Cindy DeLuca and her husband Rick of Nazareth, Donna Eberle and her husband Albert of Nazareth and Emma Lowry and her husband David of Bethlehem; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren as well as her sister in law Helen Transue. She is predeceased by 5 brothers and 9 sisters. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 11am, in St. John's United Church of Christ, 183 S. Broad St., Nazareth, with the Rev. Curtis G. Kemmerer presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday, from 9-11 am, in the church. Burial will follow in North Bangor Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, PC, 202 West St., Wind Gap. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roberta's memory can be sent to Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, 920 Washington Blvd., Bangor, PA 18013.
