Obituary

Ruth L. Himler, 81, of Bethlehem, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg.

Born July 11, 1936 in Northampton, she was the only child of the late Arthur A. and Irene Kemmerer Lapp.  She was the wife of Donald W. Himler, with whom she recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Ruth was a graduate of Northampton High School and attended Penn State and Moravian College.  Along with her husband Donald, she was a co-owner of A.A. Lapp and Associates Insurance in Nazareth.  Family was the center of her life and Ruth enjoyed spending time with them in Ocean City, NJ, Disney World, and watching football.  An avid fan of the New England Patriots and Penn State, Ruth attended all the PSU home games until recent years, some away games and many bowl games.  As those who knew her would attest, she had an uncanny ability to remember past dates and events, and make family connections to the astonishment not only of family and friends, but from people who only crossed her path once or twice.

Ruth was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nazareth.

Along with her husband Donald, Ruth is survived by two sons, D. Scott Himler and Eric Himler and his wife Chrissy; one daughter, Stacey Himler and her husband Gene Danko; grandchildren, Matthew Himler and his wife Jenny, Megan Himler and her fiancée John Eby, and Mark Himler.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law James Himler and his wife Esther; niece Jessica Stellaci and her husband Jim, and their children James and Sophia; and nephew Chris Himler and his wife Laura, and their son Austin.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 9:30 till 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, 200 S. Broad St., Nazareth.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church.  Arrangements are under the care of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth.

Ruth was the recipient of a donor kidney ten years ago and in lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth's name may be offered to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Dept., 30 E. 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 (www.kidney.org), or to the National Foundation for Transplants, 5350 Poplar Ave., Ste. 430, Memphis TN  38119 (www.transplants.org).
