Obituary

Shawn Thomas Detweiler, born February 12, 1989, went to be with his Higher Power on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem. He was surrounded by family and friends as he took his last breath and went towards "the waterfall of his dreams". He left following his courageous, long, arduous battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was diagnosed on May 1, 2012. Shawn lived in Wind Gap and was a 2007 graduate of Pen Argyl Area High School. He proudly served in the US Navy. He attended Triangle Tech for electrical maintenance and received the highest grades in his class. He loved his family. He protected those he cared about fiercely, quietly, strongly and diligently to the end. He was always making people laugh with his quirky sense of humor and crazy antics. He was in chorus in school and played the baritone saxophone in the high school marching and concert bands. Some of his passions included many fishing trips with Pap Detweiler, camping, music, burning incense, reading, bike riding and almost anything athletic. He won an amateur bike race at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome. His favorite football teams were the Oregon Ducks and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He very proudly sported many tattoos. The first one he got was a colorful one of Emma's name and birth date as his love for her was intense. He was an active member of Hope United Church of Christ, Wind Gap where he was baptized and confirmed. Shawn is survived by his mother, Laurie (Bickford) Woolley and step father Roger Woolley of Wind Gap; his father, Thomas Detweiler and step mother Donna Detweiler of Nazareth; a daughter, Emma Cimino; two sisters Bridget Stanaback and her husband Mike and Erica Fiorot and her husband Peter; two step sisters, Nichole Woolley Eisenhard and Nicole Smith; grandparents Eileen and Robert Detweiler; step grandfather, Paul Witman; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; family dog Jewels, whom he affectionately called "Fat Head"; and two leopard geckos named Meg-Cat and Toni (named after his home hospice care givers). He was preceded in death by grandparents Ardell (Bickford) Witman and Harry Bickford. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 am on Tuesday, March 31, at Hope United Church of Christ, 701 Cherry Street, Wind Gap. A celebration of Shawn's Life will immediately follow at 11 am in the church sanctuary, with the Rev. Dr. Dean Frey presiding. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West Street, Wind Gap. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, social workers, technicians, therapists, pastors, friends, and family who supported Shawn on his journey. There are too many to list but you know who you are. Please know that we truly appreciate all you've done for him. In Lieu of flowers, contributions in Shawn's memory may be made to Hope UCC Memorial Fund, 701 Cherry Street, Wind Gap, PA 18091.
