Obituary

Sherwood L. Steward, 81, of Tatamy, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at his residence. Born: February 12, 1932 in Nazareth, he was a son, of the late Franklin and Helen Knauss Steward. Personal: He was the husband of Mae James Steward. Together they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Sherwood served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from July 1949 to August of 1956. He retired from the United States Naval Reserve, as a Chief Petty Officer with 35 years of total combined service. He was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation as an Administrative Assistant for Human Resources in the Research Department, retiring in 1985 after more than 28 years of service. Following retirement, he worked part time as a sales clerk for Nazareth Hardware and had served as superintendent of Forks Cemetery in Forks Twp., since 1986. Memberships: Sherwood was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Tatamy, where he served as treasurer for 18 years, a member of the Whitfield Lodge #622, F&AM in Tatamy and member and secretary of the Tatamy Fireman's Relief Association. Survivors: Along with his wife Mae, Sherwood is survived by one son, Larry S. Steward and his wife Monica, of Mountville; two granddaughters, Meredith and Eleanor; one brother, Kenneth, of Tatamy and two sisters, Bernice Correll of Tatamy and Charlet Baboski of Pen Argyl. Services: Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., in Hope Lutheran Church, 240 S. 8th St., Tatamy, PA, with the Reverend Herbert Dolich presiding. Viewings will be held on Friday evening (tonight), from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., in the church with Masonic Services at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Forks Cemetery. Memorials: In Sherwood's name may be offered to the church. Arrangements are under the care of the Schmidt Funeral Home P.C., 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth.
