Shirley Mendola, 85, of Nazareth, passed away late Thursday evening, September 3, 2015, at New Eastwood, Easton. She was the wife of the late Peter Mendola. Born July 20, 1930, in Tunkhannock, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Esther Rosengrant DeMass. Shirley graduated from Easton High School in 1948, and worked at Mack Printing Company for 33 years, retiring in 1991 as a Paste-Up Artist. While at Mack Printing, she served as the Union Secretary for 22 years and as a NFIU Regional Vice president for 5 years. She was instrumental in forming the Mack Printing Federal Credit Union, which is now part of IR, and starting the Mack Printing Annual Reunion. Shirley and her late husband Peter owned and operated The Townehouse in Nazareth for over 38 years. They enjoyed traveling through the Caribbean, especially Barbados and South America. After Peter's death, she joined her friends on river cruises in Europe and Egypt. She was life member of the Wilson Boro Republican Club, Palmer Fire Company and Nazareth Jacksonian Club, and was also a very active member of the Nazareth VFW and East Lawn Fire Company. Shirley was the beloved mother of Linda Ziegenfuss Gordon and her husband Wayne (Louie), of Easton, and her step-sons, Peter Mendola and his wife Catherine of Chicago, IL, and Clay "Tim" Mendola of Nazareth. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Ashley Gordon Rizzotto (Benjamin), Alan A. Gordon (Sheila), Noele Cole (John), Peter J. Mendola (Caroline) and Melissa, Shanese and Chelsea Mendola; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside memorial service on Saturday, September 12, at 11:00 am at Easton Cemetery, 7th Street, Easton PA, with Pastor Sue Ruggles officiating. Those attending are asked to meet at the main entrance gate to the cemetery by 10:45 am. Services are under the care and direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA.
