Obituary

Stanley J. Coopersmith III, 72 of Creedmoor, NC, formerly of Nazareth, PA, passed away with his wife by his side on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Born on October 24, 1945, he was the son of the late Stanley J. Jr. and Kathleen (Aicher) Coopersmith, and husband of Christine Gyulai Coopersmith of 10 years.

He was a 1964 graduate of Easton High School.  After graduating he became employed by Ingersoll Rand.  Later he attended the Pennsylvania State Police Academy and graduated from the Allentown Police Academy.  He was sworn in as a police officer with Bushkill Township Police Department in 1972.  In 1999 he was appointed as deputy chief and then chief of police in 2002.  He retired from the same department in 2013.  Additionally, he worked closely with the PA State Attorney General's Office with the Drug Task Force which had an impact on creating the Northampton County Drug Task Force.  His love for his family, friends, and blue line brotherhood was most important to him.
Survivors:  In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Stanley J. Coopersmith IV, also of Creedmoor, NC, Dr. Michael Coopersmith and wife Karen of Bellville, TX, and Jeremiah Coopersmith of Kingston, PA; daughter, Bobbi Jo Duffield and husband Jonathan of Fort Bragg, NC; brother, Jack Coopersmith of Boise, ID; and grandchildren, Caden, Christian, and Peyton. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Services:  All services will be held at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth, PA.  The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, November 24, 2017.  On Saturday, November 25, 2017, calling hours will be from 12 pm to 1:30 pm followed by funeral services.  Interment will be at Northampton Memorial Shrine in Easton, PA immediately after.  Following the services, a fellowship for family and friends will be held at the Bushkill Township Fire Hall.

Contributions in lieu of flowers:  Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
