Steven J. "Steve" Handelong, 55, of Wind Gap passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, in the caring environment of Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. Born on January 14, 1970, in East Stroudsburg, Steve was the son of the late Jimmy W. Handelong and Pauline R. (Artz) Stout, and stepson of Norman (Pete) Stout. He was the beloved husband of Melissa "Missy" (Williams) Handelong. Their marriage was a blend of mutual respect and unwavering support until Missy's untimely passing in 2014.
Steve grew up in the close-knit community of Wind Gap, where he attended and graduated from Pen Argyl High School. He was employed by C. F. Martin Co., for many years, until retiring on disability.
He was a man of gentle spirit and a loving heart. Always willing to lend a hand when he could, his life was a testament to the power of kindness and the quiet strength of a friendly disposition.
Steve's home was his sanctuary, a place where he found peace and contentment. He enjoyed the companionship of his pet cats, Audrey and Cleo, who brought him immeasurable happiness. His passion for Heavy Metal music, horror movies, and gaming filled his hours with energy and excitement.
Steve enjoyed spending his last days with his best friend Mike Compton and his wife Sue. He could not ask for better friends. Their kindness and love will be remembered forever.
He is survived by his loving and devoted sister, Denise Nolf of Wind Gap; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Norman J. "Pete" Stout and wife Donnakay of Wind Gap, Kimberly Wismer of Nazareth, Cheryl Konopaski of Wind Gap and Charlene Pleiss of Forks Township; nephew, Fred Christman and his wife Charity and 5 children all of Tobyhanna; several aunts and uncles. In addition to his wife Missy and his parents, Steve was predeceased by his sister Sherri Christman; niece, Rebecca Christman; and stepsister, Robin Kilpatrick.
Private services will be held at a later date.
