Velma A. Siegfried, 91, formerly of Bangor, passed away late Tuesday evening, September 8, 2015 in Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth. She was the wife of the late Richard A. Siegfried, Sr., with whom she shared 51 years of marriage before his passing in July, 1993. Born January 19, 1924, in Pen Argyl, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary Ann Marsh Bowers. Velma graduated from Pen Argyl High School in 1941. She was employed in the garment industry, working for many years at Pioneer Sportswear in Nazareth from where she retired. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was a member of the Slate Belt Senior Center, AARP #4135 in Bangor, and Grace Lutheran Church in Belfast. Velma was the beloved mother of Richard A. Siegfried, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Bushkill Twp., and Winifred Mengel and her husband Frank of Forks Twp. Also surviving are 5 Grandchildren, 9 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Constance Smith (Leon); a Grandson, Michael Mengel, her brothers, Fred and Richard Bowers, and her sisters, Mae Tona, Virginia Liero and Jeanette Albert. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, September 12, at Grace Lutheran Church, 5907 Sullivan Trail, Nazareth. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 am with the Rev. James Henderschedt presiding. Burial will be in Belfast Union Cemetery, Nazareth. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Velma's name may be offered to Grace Lutheran Church at the above address.
