Viola Altieri, 97, formerly of Bangor, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2016 at Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth. Born April 27, 1919 in New Haven, CT., she was a daughter of the late Carmine and Sofia Fraenza Altieri.

Born and raised in New Haven, Viola worked there for many years as a sewing machine operator in an undergarment factory. She also spent many of her adult years living in Jackson Heights, Queens with her family. Prior to living at Gracedale, she lived in Bangor with her late nephew, Vincent Altieri and his wife Aranka. Viola will always be remembered for her kind hearted spirit and the love she showed to family and friends.

Viola is survived by her sister, Edith Altieri Maturo; Vincent's wife, Aranka Altieri; a great-nephew, Michael Altieri, his wife Ali and their children Owen, Hannah and Ethan; a great-niece, Connie Altieri Lusdyk, her husband Peter and their children Nicholas, Daniel and Matthew; nephews Lawrence Altieri, Francis Altieri and Joseph DePetto; and niece Catherine Maturo. In addition to her parents and nephew Vincent, she was predeceased by her brother, Vincent J. Altieri and his wife Anna; a sister, Teresa DePetto; and a niece Geraldine DePetto.

Viola's final resting place will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven, CT. Services will be held at the convenience of the family, and are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, Wind Gap.
