William Franklin Bishop, 85, formerly of Boiling Springs, South Carolina and most recently residing in Northampton, Pennsylvania, passed away early Monday morning, June 23, 2014 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg in Bethlehem, PA. He was the husband of Barbara (Sprouse) Bishop. They had been married 61 years. BORN: Born in Union, South Carolina on December 13, 1928, he was the son of the late Claude B. and Lona (Quinn) Bishop. PERSONAL: He was a graduate of Union High School. He was most recently employed by the Spartanburg Herald-Journal as a linotype operator and printer for 30 years before retiring in 1994. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in combat. One of Papa's greatest honors was to be accompanied by his son, Frank on Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in May 2013. Papa was thrilled to receive the Hero's welcome that he did not receive when he came back from Korea in 1953. Bill's favorite hobby was repairing Volkswagens. He enjoyed many hours pursuing his passion. But his proudest role in life was that of loving and devoted husband, beloved father, adored papa and dear brother who will be sadly missed by all. SURVIVORS: In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Frank Bishop and his wife Robbie of Gaffney, SC, daughter, Debra Burnette and her husband Wayne of Nazareth, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Lee Snell and her husband James of Lexington, SC, Loree Bishop of Spartanburg, Will Burnette and Harrison Burnette of Nazareth, PA; sisters, Delia Boatwright and her husband George of Aiken, SC, Ann Reynolds and her husband John of Orangeburg, SC, and Jane Miller and her husband Bill of Navasota, TX; brother-in-law Robert Sprouse of Buffalo, SC, and sisters-in-law Margaret Wade and Judy Bobo of Union, SC. SERVICES: The Reverend Dr. Joseph W. Smith will officiate a funeral service at noon on Thursday, June 26th at the Eggers Funeral Home in Boiling Springs, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Interment will be in the Good Shepherd Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, SC.
