William E. Pittenger, 93, of Pen Argyl, formerly of Easton, passed away early Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Morning Star Manor. He was the beloved husband of Betty J. Mabus Pittenger; together they shared 69 years of marriage. Born August 23, 1922 in Lower Mt. Bethel Township, he was the son of the late Elwood E. and Catherine F. Brown Pittenger. A member of the U.S. Army, Bill honorably served his country during WWII with the 44th Infantry Division in Germany, France and Austria. He worked as a truck driver for Easton Motor Freight, later North Penn Transfer, from where he retired after 29 years of service. Over the years, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and being a leader with the Boy Scouts Explorer Program. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1290 in Easton. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by three sons, Ray and his wife Mariellen of Wilson Boro, Lloyd and his wife Barbara of Nazareth, and Donald and his wife Barbara of Florida. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by a son, Warren E. Pittenger, a daughter, Thelma J. Dornblaser, a brother, James Pittenger, and three sisters, Edna Mazzie, Mary Stetler and Frances Peters. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 am on Friday, November 6, at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am in the funeral home, with the Rev. C. Frank Terhune officiating. Burial will follow at Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton.
