Obituary

Winnie Mae (don't call me Winifred!) Hartzell, formerly of Hecktown and Homosassa, FL passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Gracedale, Nazareth. She was born on June 29, 1938, in Wind Gap, the daughter of the late Elwood and Mary (Mann) Roberts. She was married to David H. Hartzell for 60 years at the time of his death on April 21, 2020.

She was a graduate of Pen Argyl High School, Class of 1956. She was employed by the County of Northampton, first in the County Controller's Office of Charles H. Unangst, Mary E. Hayes and Ken Florey. After leaving that office, she continued with the county working for Elmo Frey, Sr. and Elmo Frey, Jr. in the Nazareth District Justice Office.

Winnie enjoyed bowling and water skiing in her earlier years, fishing trips to Canada with Dave and their friends, cruising, playing pinochle with their card club and she was a Master Yahtzee player. She was also a big fan of the Philadelphia Phillies.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and brothers Ronald and Carl, and a great granddaughter Rianna Glass. She is survived by daughters, Marie Ashenfalder (Duane) of Nazareth, Beth Fehnel (Lee) and Brenda Anthony (Mark) all of Danielsville and Cindy Aungst (Tim) of Salisbury Township; grandchildren Matthew Hartzell (Hillary) of Danielsville, Josh Ashenfalder (Mary) of Wind Gap,  Rick Ashenfalder (Nicole) of Mount Joy, Jonathan Fehnel of Catasauqua, Amber Glass (Terry) of Danielsville, Justin Aungst and Rebecca Aungst of Salisbury Township; great grandchildren Zachary, Ava, Lincoln, Lucas, Landon, Serenity, and Hunter; sister-in-law Gail Roberts, and several nieces and nephews.

Winnie's daughters wish to offer a special thank you to all of her caregivers on NW-1 at Gracedale, including Tabetha, Gloria, Samantha, Sondra, Dana, Jill, Jen and especially Candy, for their unwavering care and love of our Mom.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 10-11 am, Monday, June 3, with a joint Memorial Service for David and Winnie beginning at 11 in the Schmidt Funeral Home, PC, 407 Belvidere St. Nazareth.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Winnie may be sent to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1070 N. Suncoast Blvd., Crystal River, FL 34429 or to Furry Feet Animal Rescue, 771 S. Cottonwood Rd., Walnutport, PA 18088.
